disappearing george

my gt grandfather george paice born 1853 riverhead kent and family alice (maiden name lee also born 1853 and 4 of their 5 living children -alfred sarah harry and edith) were found on 1881 1901 and 1911 census but disappeared in the 1871 and 1861 census so i have been unable to locate his parents any ideas? thanks kate

Just establishing when they married:

Marriages Dec 1876 (>99%)
LEE Alice Bromley 2a 589
Paice George Bromley 2a 589

It's difficult to pin him down before 1881 as you say. Just if it helps anyone, Riverhead comes under Tonbridge.

OK, let's start over. Personally I think George is just too elusive so the marriage cert might be necessary - a shame as with that name I would have thought he might be easier. Never mind!
