I am trying to find this family prior to the 1881 census as there does not seem to be an sign of them. Is there anyone out there that can help? I am particulartly interested in Elizabeth aged three as she is called Price Evans. I have a suspicion she is linked to the Evans family at no.45 as she was a witness at the wedding of Griffith Evans in 1900. Also, in the 1901 cencus she is visiting the home of William Evans at no.10 Railway Terrace. My true interest is the the Evans.

Hi Catherine and Patricia.

Catherine Report 6 Sep 2010 22:06

In the 1881 census her name is given as Elizabeth P. Evans and although she is noted as daughter, it could be that she is Granddaughter and her parents were male Evans and female Price.

How do you know that her middle name was Price? I can find two birth in Wales for an Elizabeth P. Evans but neither are middle name Price.

Hi Catherine,
in the 1901 census she is visiting the William Evans of no. 45 Greenfield Row. Here are the details: Albert Watkins is the head of household and the address is 10 Railway Terrace. you will see William is a boarder and he is being visited by Elizabeth Price Evans. I am also in possesion of the marriage certificate of Griffith Evans of no. 45 - he is my grandfather. On the marriage cert. Elizabeth Price Evans is one witness. The other is a Frank Young who I also found in Greenfield Row, same age. There may be nothing in it but it seems a coincidence. you will see that Williams spouse(my great grandfather) is a Price so I have been trying to work out if there is a connection but it is frying my brain. Even if you find no other info you have been an fantastic help!

If this is her marriage, then the cert. will give you her father's name and occupation, which may help confirm any findings:-

Do you think they could have just made her name up? Ken - Either the Price or the Evans bit.?

No problem, Ken. It's an uncommon name and it is getting late. I'm signing off now but will try and look in tomorrow to see if anyone else has found anything.
