Sorry for not getting back last year but I lost everything I had on my computer and finished up buying a new one this year when it happened again after putting most stuff back in

Eleanor Bates married James Sim in 1899 (my grandfather) I now have his 2nd marriage certificate to Beatrice. He had 3 children to his first marriage to Eleanor Bates
Eleanor born abt 1900,
Annie abt 1902 and
James around 1904.

Annie married Eric Power had a daughter Patricia and both mum and daughter have passed away

Eleanor married John Thomas and had a son Arthur born around 1928

James married May Pugh and had 3 children Dorothy 1923, Arthur 1926 and another James 1924

James Snr's father has turned out to be different also his father was George Sim born scotland abt 1845 and mother Jane Johnstone born abt 1846 Scotland. That is all I know of them so far

Thanks for all your hard work and investigation

"James [Sim] married May Pugh and had Dorothy, Arthur and James"

Not in England? The marriage is 1921 in Cheshire, but I don't see any births with those surnames. Unless Pugh wasn't May's birth surname?

"Annie married Eric Power had a daughter"

Again, the name is too common to identify a marriage.

I can't even see the family in the 1901 or 1911 census ...

Marriages Sep 1899
> Bates Eleanor Liverpool 8b 17
Clarke Rose Ann Liverpool 8b 17
> Sim James Liverpool 8b 17
Woods Edward Liverpool 8b 17

Just trying to get a handle on ages etc.

Eleanor Jane Sim born 1900 was your dad's half-sister?

Births Mar 1900 ?
Sim Eleanor Jane W. Derby 8b 411

Your dad was considerably younger?

Marriage certificates show the person's age and their father's name -- so if you found a marriage that matched on those points, you would have a working theory. ;)

There is one other birth with the surnames Thomas and Sim, a younger sibling, also in Leicestershire. Do you have that name? Unfortunately it's very common, with no middle initial, so the chance of identifying a marriage there seems slim.

yes they got their information off me so that is a no go. If I buy a certificate what do I buy? his birth won't give me his childrens names etc?

Thanks Jan
yes I did post before but didn't get any responses. I don't know how to get a certificate for him when we don't know anything about him except his birth. I am not familiar with where all the towns etc are over there so not sure how close things are either. I live in australia.
It is really the whole family I am after I have all the naes of my dads half brother and sisters and all their marriages and childrens names but that is where I run into a brick wall from over here. My grandfather James Sim first married Eleanor Bates she had Eleanor 1900 who married John Thomas, Annie married Eric Power had a daughter both died and James married May Pugh and had Dorothy, Arthur and James. I haven't been able to locate any of these children at all.

Thanks for your help anyway, I really appreciate it.

If we start with the (big!) assumption that he didn't move too far, there is a marriage in Nottingham 1960. Problem is, not sure how you can make use of this without the cert. Will PM the details.

I assume you have searched for matches on here already? There is an Anthony who might match for Ellen for example.

anything - did he marry, have kids - just haven't been able to find anyone with anything on him. We only recently found out that his mum Eleanor was my dads half sister and I assume she is dead now so trying to find to make contact.

Thanks Heaps
