Anna Report 25 Sep 2010 17:06

Hi I am trying to find information on the Ward family who I believe originated in Suffolk and some how spread to Surrey! I have the records of the usual census' but wondered if there were any descendent's lurking on the message boards (other then me!)

I am looking for information on parents Arthur Ward (1845) and Harriet (Gates?) and their children were:

Arthur (1884)
Sarah (1886)
Harriet (1887)
Rufus (1889)
Ellen (1890)
Charlotte (1893)
James Edward (1895)
Violet Victoria (1897)
May Gertrude (1900)
Ivy Matilda (1902)
Elsie (1904)

There's got to be someone out there!!!!

Anna, I know there will be a lot of Wards but have you searched trees here on GR?

Anna Report 25 Sep 2010 17:11

Hi Anne-Marie,

I have attempted too, especially the more unusual names but the few likely matches I have found haven't replied. I know people are updating their trees all the time so it may be that I just haven't found them. I did search Ancestry's public trees last week and got nothing though!!

Anna, do you have any of the children's birth certificates? If not, you should send off for one to confirm the mothers name:

Hi Jax and Anne-Marie,

That's where I got the surname Gates from - Violet Victoria's birth certificate which I ordered last year. I was surprised as well as I couldn't find Harriet at all. I was helped recently on Ancestry and learnt that Arthur Ward (1845 one) had no father named on his birth certificate and was born in the 'sick house' in Barham, Suffolk. When his mother married when he was 5 or 6 he changed his name to Farthing and we located his Naval records aged 16 as Arthur Farthing. He must surely have had some stick about his name because he suddenly appears with Harriet as Arthur Ward! It's one big mystery!

Hi Jax,

Yes his age has proved a bit of a problem! The record you found for Bosmere 1845 and his mothers record for her marriage to Robert Farthing are the correct records. I ordered that birth certificate and there is no father on it and place of birth is 'sick house' so that's another mystery to add to the the pile! Thanks for replying,

Anna

EDIT: Sorry just realised I put the stuff about his place of birth in an earlier post! :)

Please do not start new threads on the same person, I see I have just wasted my time looking up info that you had been given last month

Hi Jax

Thanks for replying, however if you read the post you would see I am also looking for any descendants of the Ward family. I am sorry you didn't realise you had already found the parents information!

Hi Anna,

Rufus Ward married a descendant of mine Louisa Violet Anderton. Their son Rufus Ward was a RAF pilot, KIA 70 years ago tomorrow in the Battle of Britain. As far as I have found so far they were living in Croydon. I am of the Anderton side so don't know very much about the Wards at the moment. If you want to see my tree so you can enter some info about her side let me know.
