I think I remember reading on a thread quite a few years ago that for some reason Manchester Cathedral didn't charge for marriages at one time so that is why it was popular.

Like you Gail I thought that it may carry a status symbol alas no lol.

I have quite a few ancestors who were either baptised or married at Manchester Cathedral including my 2x grandparents...it just happened to be the main Parish Church for Manchester formally known as the Collegiate Parish Church.

If you google Manchester Cathedral you will find the photos and history of the church it makes very interesting reading.

Have you found a birth for Ellen Rounds, or could she possibly be Ellen Worrall? There are very few Rounds on free bmd.
Have you got the family on the 1861 census?
Thanks

Gail

Anne Marie,

Do you think that it would have been a status symbal to be married at Manchester Cathedral. I could do with a bit of of this as some of my ancesters have been paupers, Hawkers and all manner of poor souls. A couple served jail terms for robbery.

Hi Kath,

Many many thanks for your information, I am sure this is the information I need I will try and get a copy of Thomas's marriage certificate it should give his parents name. Not used the Community before. Will certainly use it again. I will keep in touch and hope if anyone else has any information regarding the Walkers and Rounds I will certainly keep on this thread for the next few days. Thanks again all of you. Will speak to you soon. I may look into the name Warrall as daughters often took their mothers maiden names as a middle name. How interesting.
Regards Gail

Sorry my mistake it is not rebecca it is Ellen Rounds and there are no records of her on members trees, her father was James Rounds born Harpurhay Manchester. in 1827 again no members records. I do have census records so the names are correct. Ellens father lived with them in his later life.

Gail, you may get a better response by searching trees on this site (see Search Trees on top menu).

If there is anything specific that you're trying to find out then let us know what it is.

Have you looked for Rebecca Rounds on members' trees on this site?
It is probably the easiest way as it is unlikely that relatives will see this message.

My Walker family were hat makes from the Stockport, Denton, Manchester area. Thomas 1849 and Rebecca Rounds 1852 both born in Manchester Area. Such a common name, anyone out there with similar relatives.
