Tracey Report 3 Oct 2010 17:05

I am trying to find James & Annie Cooke/Cook and check the birth area for James and their whereabouts in this year. Annie Cooke (nee New) was born in Kidderminster. I know they had a daughter in 1903.
James birth year 1867
Annie birth year 1868

Thank you

Tracey - do you know the daughter's name? There are an awful lot of Cook(e)s so it will narrow it down.

I have located them in 1901 but I wasn't aware he was born in Kent & want to check. The 1901 census shows them in Coventry and again this is out the norm so wanted to check where they were in 1911.

The daughter born in 1903 was Ethel. I also believe they had a daughter called Alice.

Thank you

Yes they were married in 1894. I have the cert and James' fathers name is John They were at Dudley St in Kidderminster in 1894. This is where I expect them to be. I never expected a move to Coventry. Just checking everything.

Where was Ethel born in 1903? does she have a middle name?

also any idea where or when Alice was born please?

Tracey

Tracey Report 3 Oct 2010 22:53

As per questions above -

Ethel May Cooke was born in Kidderminster.
I don't know when Alice was born, sometime after 1903 I believe. In 1903 they were at 4 York St, Kidderminster so they don't appear to have stayed in Coventry.

None of the Cooke/Cook mentioned above are in my family tree.

The New family are from Weavers in Kidderminster. When I searched for a James Cooke to match with an Annie New I could only find their marriage in 1894. Prior to the marriage in 1891 I could not locate Annie New on the census. I have searched 1901 and the only match I could find was them living in Coventry and James Cooke's birth place states Chatham Kent. I know his father is John Cooke/Cook but I don't know what to do next. I need to verify the place of birth so I thought the 1911 census may give me some kind of confirmation.

James' father John Cooke was stated as a Mechanic on James/Annie marriage cert in 1894. James was stated as a labourer.

In 1903 James was stated as a Wireman on Ethel's birth cert. On Ethel's marriage cert in 1921 he is stated as a master electrical engineer but is deceased.

Thanks for all your help.

Do you have any relatives connected to Ribbesford near Kidderminster, I have been doing a tree for a friend with the name Cooke from the Kidderminster area. They were weavers but going back a few generations one was born in Yorkshire if I remember right and moved down with the carpet industry.

John R Cooke (b.1847 Hartlebury) and his wife Maria (b.1853 Ombersley) ran Burlish Farm, Lower Mitton, Stourport (400 acres) with John's brother Alfred M Cooke (b.1859) in 1881.
5 men and 2 boys were employed on the farm. :D
