His records wouldn't be on Ancestry as he served up to 1926. You need to follow Dianes advice.

www.veterans-uk.org Hi Karen have a look at this site, the information for you is there on how to obtain his records, I sent away for my grandfathers Service Records, paid £30.00 and signed a next of kin form, and after a wait of about 7 months received ww1 and ww2 service records, Well worth the wait. Good Luck..

Had a look on Ancestry and the CWGC (Commonwealth War Graves Commission) website and i couldnt see your man...i think upto 60% of the record were lost or destroyed

Hi all, please can anyone help or point me in the right direction? I am trying to find military records for my Grandfather Willam Charles Carter. I hav e got his army number 4114856 and he served in the Cheshire Regiment from 24th June 1919 to 23rd June 1931. I have been told that he received several medals during his time served including the Indian Star, but cannot find any records of this. He served in India from 6/3/1922 to 15/12/1926. Could anyone please advise how I can find records to confirm this.
