I am trying to get some information on some direct descendents of my wife’s family.
I have a ggggranfather
Roderick Robertson born in LAIRG Sutherland Scotland around 1830
He died in Victoria Australia 17/10/1908
He was married in Ballan Victoria 08/10/1855 to a Katherine McPherson.
I would like to get his DOB if possible.. and then was hoping to try and find some information on his parents from Scotland.
Thomas Robertson dob: 21/03/1801 in Scotland ( I would assume also in LAIRG)
Now this is where it gets tricky.. Thomas was married twice apparently .. but I don’t know what one is Roderick’s mother.
Ann Grant born about 1805 and
Janet Munro born about 1800
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

So possibly his mother was Ann Grant

The marriage of Thomas Robertson to Janet MUNRO was in 1826 apparently ( IGI )....and Roderick was born/bapt c.1830.

Of course....we always hear that the IGI should be used as a guide only, but if it is correct, then you might need to find a death for Janet Robertson ( Munro ) between 1826 and 1830/40s....and a re-marriage of Thomas Robertson to Ann Grant.
Closest one can see on the IGI ( Scotland ) is Thomas William Robertson to Barbara Grant...says: About 1821 , , Scotland
"Record submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church"
Or...Ann Grant may have been just a step mum ( Paternal and not Maternal ) to Roderick, but he grew up assuming it was his mother, so it was listed on his death cert.
Might need a bit of Scotland help with this one.
I did notice that three out of four trees on Ancestry a.u......have Ann GRANT as his mother....but one has Janet MUNRO?.

Thanks very much Tony.. I am going down to Victoria at Christmas where apparently one of the old aunts has boxes of stuff that she has saved.. so hopefully I might find lots of goodie in there.. I am doing this for my wife .. and on her mothers side we appear to have a first fleeter convict.. so will be tackeling that one next..

Sorry i couldn't help further( Scotland ) but outside Australia and New Zealand i'm as lost as the next Aussie...lol
