Many thanks for that...I was hoping he had been a boot maker like his father, might have been easier to decide if it was the right one! I was also hoping that he had married as I'm trying to find out about his mother Jane and not having any luck there. I've got to go offline for a couple of hours as OH needs the computer but I will check in later.

Have to admit that I am drawn to that one...keep looking at it! Think I may have found his birth now which is 1839 (if it's the right one) so that would fit.

I've reached a dead end trying to find William Lewis who was born c1841 in St James, Middlesex. His father was also William Lewis born c1804 and his mother was called Jane (I also can't find her maiden name).
I've found the family in the 1851 census living at 37 Rupert St, St. James but after that, I can't find him. I have found his father on the 1861 census.
His sister, Caroline was born in 1836 and she is my gggrandmother.
Any help greatly appreciated!
