Can anyone tell me whether it is possible to work out which squadron my dad was in during WW2, with only his name and number...all I know is that he was in South Africa for a while at Clairmont Camp and then to India. I may have a photo of him in uniform could anyone help me? Thank you.

Hi. if you go to the site for National Archives, and put in RAF personel in WW2. try the leads on there to find where you can put in your query. Give as much info as possible. age, full name. service number . etc.,. next of Kin, ie your Mum, and any children born at that time. There will also be other links that may help. Do you have his record book????

I would suggest you obtain his service records, these are not online nor in the public domain they are still held by the RAF, and only available to NOK.

Here is the link which explains all, there may be a charge i know for Army records its £30-00 and a long wait as well, don't know about the RAF.

Link, you can download all the appropriate forms

Thanks for your suggestions. I have downloaded the forms to obtain his service record. But still don't know what squadron he was with. I know he was with the RAFVR and his service number was 1250205 Surname Lewis. He was overseas from 26/07/1942 - 19/10/1945 with the SEAAC. Hopefully if I google enough I will come up with something, Thanks again
