I am trying to locate the parents of William Watson born 1805. I realise that I need his BC but do not know how to go about it. He was born in Guisborough Yorks. Married in 1831 a Mary Hunter also born Guisborough in c1808.From census they later moved to Stockton on Tees. He was a shoemaker. I do not know which parish he was born and would not know how to go about searching these records. Any help would be appreciated

Afraid there are no birth certificates prior to July 1837.

You may find a birth record in the Yorkshire Parish Registers but you would need a subscription I think.

Hi Denis, if you do a search of trees on here there are 2 people that have matches for a William Watson 1805 Guisborough. You could try to contact them, they may have the information you are after.

You could also try the Rootschat site which is free. They divide their boards into counties which is really useful when asking for lookups. I have had some excellent help from the Yorkshire board on there. Cx.

Mary Hunter christened by jane 24/11/1808
Jane Hunter married robert robinson in guisborough 18/5/1816

Jane christened by william 16/1/1791 Guisborough.

This could be william's parents William Watson born newsholme Gisburn 1772 and mary dawson born Gisburn 1776 married 12.9.1797
They had William 1804 in Gisburn.
William married Mary Hunter/Robinson in Guisborough 25/6/1831.

Hi Mary
Looks promising. i am not sure I understand what Mart Hunter/Robinson means, can you help me here. Also I had William born 1805 in Guisborough but that was from a census record and you know how bad the handwriting can be. Also do you know where Guisburn is relative to Guisborough? What was the source of your info? I live in Canada and have to do everything on line so directing me to the source may help with other searches.
Many thanks for your help, it is the first lead I have had re Williams parents.
Regards
Denis

Mary Hunter who married your William was born out of wedlock to Jane Hunter.
Jane later married Robert Robinson.

Hi Mary
Thanks for clarifying the Hunter/ Robinson situation. Also through International Geneological Index I have learned that William's parents were William and Mary formerly Dawson and they had another 4 children. Nice they all come from Guisburn as it makes it a little easier. I also found a William born in 1743 and married a Anne Simpson. Again from Guisburn.
I have had a good days hunting.
Thanks for your help
