Mother's in Law are notorious for giving the wrong information! Mine couldn't even give me the correct birthdates for her siblings (only 3 of them) she didn't know her paternal uncles and aunts or her grandparents' names. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find out these things until after she died.

Oh Elisabeth thats brill you found your Fathers details, when everything comes together there is no better feeling is there?

I have just spoken to Mother I L and i find i was given the incorrect info !!!! 1.2.3.4.5 there i'm ok now !!!!!!
I find her Uncle was born in 1932, i feel he may have been put in a home in the Norfolk area as he lived there as an adult, and he was born in Yorkshire, and suffered with polio.

I will keep looking in between other things !!!!

I wish you luck in your quest.

I had the good luck of knowing where my father had been placed in 1908, and found him on 1911 census, in a children's home.

I had already managed to find out which organisation had the records of the children's home and got a transcript of the file, which had been closed in 1913.

I hope you will come back to us, and tell us how you get on.

Perhaps you could ask for a look-up on 1911 census, if you don't have access yourself. If he was placed in a home in 1910, he would be listed amongst the boarders in 1911. (It wouldn't necessarily be in his home county of Yorkshire, he may have been sent many miles from home.)

I don't think he went overseas, as later in life he was living in Norfolk.

Hello Sally,
Knowing the area may help but children sometimes ended up miles away from their home.
If you are trying to find out what happened to him after 1910 it may be worth asking on this board if anyone could do a lookup to see if he was transported to Australia / Canada as a 'Home Child'.

Hi,
Is there any way of finding out about a boy who was put in a home?
Would we have to know where he was when he was put in the home or would there be a list of childrens names? He would have been put in about 1910 i think, the family was living in Yorkshire.
Any info would be great
