Oh and I'm not sure what you meant about the Ada name, was there previously a different wifes name given?

Chevaun Report 15 Nov 2010 23:13

Patchem, your last post seems to fit more with what I have been told about my great grandmother Kathleen Clements and that is that she originated from Kent and obviously the Engine Driver fits with the entry on Kathleens marriage certificate for fathers occupation.

Chevaun Report 15 Nov 2010 23:08

Thanks patchem for taking the time to research and post all of that information.
I have to admit I'm confused by it, there appears to be a lot to take in and for some reason it's throwing me a bit...
I think that it's because of the Parry name, would that have been a maiden name?
Sorry to be a pain.

Do not know if he is connected to previous posting, but here is a George, from Kent:
1911
CLEMENTS, George Married Sergeant 30 1881 Engine Driver Kent Maidstone

RG number: RG14 Piece: 3123 Reference: RG14PN3123 RD34 SD2 ED13 SN9999 Registration District: Farnham Sub District:
Aldershot Enumeration District: 13 Parish: Aldershot
Address: Stanhope Lines Aldershot County: Surrey

However, there is the possibility that he is married to an Ada, so will keep on looking.

Highly speculative, 1911 census:
PARRY, Ann Head Widow F 69 1842 Aston Wellington Salop
PARRY, George Son Single M 40 1871 Estate Woodman Wrekin Wellington Salop
xxx CLEMENTS, Ross Daughter Married 5 years F 33 1878 Uppington Wellington Salop
PARRY, Lizzie Daughter Single F 27 1884 Uppington Wellington Salop PARRY, Frank Walter Son Single M 26 1885 Agricultural Engine Driver Uppington Wellington Salop
xxx CLEMENTS, Kathleen Granddaughter F 3 1908 Hove Sussex
RG number: RG14 Piece: 16064 Reference: RG14PN16064 RG78PN991 RD349 SD1 ED20 SN51
Registration District: Atcham Sub District: Condover Enumeration District:
20 Parish: Uppington
Address: 1 Uppington Wellington Shropshire County: Shropshire

Ross Clements is not Ross, but I cannot tell what it is on the original.
However, on previous censuses this family has a daughter Annie who is 3 in 1881.

Looking for Clement/Parry marriages around 1906 gives only this:
Marriages Jun 1906
Clements George Atcham 6a 1467
PARRY Annie Jane Atcham 6a 1467
so that is a George.

So, correct name for Father, occupation unknown, wrong area. If correct family then looking for a married George without wife and Kathleen in 1911.

?

Added:
If he is actually an engine driver, driving the Flying Scotsman, or whatever, he could be anywhere in the country in 1911?

I think that I have found the record of Josephs death on freeBMD. I searched from March 1912 - December 1929 and it was the only one that came up in Kensington, my concern is that the age at death was 65 and that doesn't fit with the age on the 1911 given as 48...
Does anyone have any suggestions? I just don't want to waste £10 on the wrong certificate...
Thanks in advance.
Chevaun.

Hi patchem,
Kathleens age on the marriage certificate was 23 in 1930.
Does that match with anything?
Thanks,
Chevaun.

How old was Kathleen on the marriage certificate?
(Or when did she die?)
Thanks

Chevaun Report 15 Nov 2010 21:00

Thank you so much once again for all of your help MarieCeleste, it is very much appreciated.
I will somehow have to find a way to whittle down the Clements households so that I can find the correct one on the 1911.. If only I could find something more concrete than the vague info that my grandfather has given me! If I have any luck would you be able to do me a look-up on the 1911 then?
Best wishes,
Chevaun.

MarieCeleste Report 15 Nov 2010 20:47

Yes, Chevaun - those are just the Kensington ones!

There are 703 altogether. Obviously, some can be eliminated by age and location but there are still loads in the London and Kent areas.

I've had a look at the Kensington ones and none are engine drivers.

The 1911 for Besant is winging it's way to you!

Chevaun Report 15 Nov 2010 20:42

Hi MarieCeleste,
I have just sent you a PM regarding the original copy of the information regarding Joseph Besant.
Thank you so much for offering to send it over to me, it means a lot.

Hi Patchem,
No, I'm not certain about Kent, only going on information from grandfather that his mother (Kathleen Clements) was from Kent but this could be incorrect... The info is very patchy... Are you able to check if there are any results in the Kensington area for a George Clements on the 1911?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chevaun.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 15 Nov 2010 19:50

Hi Chevaun, yes it's 1911 and yes that's 29 years married!

It also says that they had 3 children, 2 of which survived.

If you click on my name to send me a message with your email address (don't post it on here!) I'll send you a copy of the original. MC

Not having much success with Kathleen Clements, Father George, engine driver, from Kent.
Are you sure about Kent?
Sorry

Chevaun

Chevaun Report 15 Nov 2010 19:44

Hi MarieCeleste,
Thank you so much for doing the lookup, are your results from the 1911 Census?
I would think that you have hit the jackpot with the Kensington result, which if correct would mean so much to me. I have never had any information relating to my great great grandfather as my great grandfather Frederick William Besant died well before I was born and my grandfather (also Frederick Besant) never met any of his fathers family as apparently he was somewhat of an outcast!
I'm not sure I understand the breakdown of the census though, are you able to explain why there are two ages given on both Josephs and Annies entry, or am I right in thinking that the 29 is the amount of years that they have been married?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 15 Nov 2010 17:56

Here's the Kensington one, as other posts on here mention there. There is also an Irish connection on this one!

BESANT, Annie Wife Married 29 years F 56 1855 Ireland Charleville Co Cork
BESANT, William Son Single M 28 1883 Night Watchman London North Kensington
BESANT, Philip Son M 7 1904 School London North Kensington

Registration District:

If you think it's any of the others then just say.
