It looks like he is on his own.......poor thing. Denbighshire Record Office have the holdings for the workhouse.........as you can pinpoint the year there may be info regarding the circumstances as to why he ended up there.......also he & his wife may have received out relief previous to her death, which can also tell a story.

Thanks Ann,his Wife died before 1901.In 1901 he was with his son Walter in the Wigan area.Walter was obviously still in Wigan in 1911.

Whether it had anything to do with his appearance in the Workhouse I don't know but I believe there was some friction between the two chilldren I mentioned,William and Elizabeth.

William resented the fact that Elizabeth married the local Colliery Manager!

It is well worth making enquiries, if you live near to Denbighshire you can book a day and do the search yourself...........its riveting stuff!

Wigan to Wrexham in those days was quite a trek.....wonder did he head straight there (workhouse)......It was unusual in those days to own your property so he probably gave his rented house up to go live with his son.

Thanks Ann,there was a lot of movement back and to between the Wrexham area and Wigan by the Coalminers of the day.He obviously moved back to Wrexham sometime between 1901 and 1911.As I've just seen in the free Index to 1911,his son Walter was in Wigan in 1911,he married there in 1909.

I only live about 18 miles from the County Record Office at Ruthin.
