Got a great lead on here with John George Brown (c1861 South Shields) a few nights ago and thought i was flying until i came across what i think is him in the 1881 Census, which states that he is a soldier in the 95th Regiment at Aldershot South Camp, and so i cannot find details of his parents. Tried the 1871 Census, but there are just too many possibilites for John Brown.

My question is then... is there any way of checking Military Records to find his next of kin details. He didn't marry until 1887 (and i think was back in the north east by then) so presumably his next of kin would be his parents. Incidentally, i don't have his wife's maiden name either, so can't check marriage certificate for his parents names.

He is the only John Brown on the 1881 Census born in South Shields, so i am assuming this is the right one.

Hope this makes sense and someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Kim

You say he married in 1887....the cert will name his father (if he knew him)

You could also look at the service records on Findmypast. If his records have survived they will be on there. They may give next of kin details.
