also looking for Samuel, father of William Lawrence born 1805.
IGI gives his christening as April 1806 in saint martin, Birmingham - parents Samuel Lawrence and Elizabeth.

IGI also gives marriage of Samuel to Elizabeth Wassell July 1807 Aston Juxta, Birmingham

Have you tried a search on this site to see if anyone else is looking for the family,
Good luck,

Surely if the parents were not married until 1807, then William would have had his mother's surname in 1806

Have you got father's name from William's marriage cert ?

Hi Mike, I only have the IGI tyo go on and they dates can sometimes be out.
The only cert I have for William is the death cert in 1842 when he was 36 yrs - this makes his Dob 1806. The IGI gives it as 1805 and gives christeniing as above in 1806.
William 35 is with wife Lydia age 30 on 1841 census - this also suggests his Dob is 1806

I don't have marriage details for William and Lydia

Hi Liz47 not sure what you are suggesting - should I look at surname information instead of 'trying to find'?

Where did William die please? ... and what date ?

Also where were they living in 1841 ?
Does it say he was born in the county of the census ?

Ages on 1841 census were rounded down to the nearest 5 so William could have been 35 to 39.

There are many entries for William Lawrence born 1806/1807 on IGI
What made you select the one to father Samuel ?

Just go to "search trees", third from left at the top of the page. Pull it down to "search all trees" and then enter your ancestor's details. If you find a match, click on the member's name, and send a message.
Good luck,
Liz

Hi Mike,
I ahve copy of the burial record for William Lawrence, Mansfield st Leicester24 march 1842. Also death cert - he died 20 March 1842 of Asthma age 36 years. (app Dob 1806)

1841 census has William and Lydia living Burgess Street leicester with children martha and samuel

1851 census sees daughter Martha Lawrence at 5 Mansfield St Leicester. Her mother Lydia has remarried (William Hall) - they are still there in 1871 census.

The reason I thought his father was Samuel was there is a similar entry for Samuel Lawrence 1811 with parents Samuel Lawrence and Mary.

I know that William arthur Lawrence b.1861 had a brother Samuel b. 1863 and they were both sons of Samuel 1838.

I have been swayed by the fact that William and Samuel seem to run as family names. I have no other reasonto be looking at the ones in Birmingham.

1841 census for William Laawrence (Laurence) does not give Leics as place of birth so I am assuming it could possibly be Warwicks.

From 1841 onwards the Larence family appear to be in Leicestershire, and wife of william 1805/18

Gosh this seems to be a lot of data - hope it is helpful!

I have a real problem with the all the assumptions.

The fact is there is nothing to say he was born in Warwickshire, or that his father was Samuel or even that his birth is entered on the IGI at all.

Perhaps if you saw the actual entry for the marriage in the parish register, it MAY name the parents .

However, he wouldn't have been christened Lawrence if his parents weren't married so the 2 entries you found don't work together.

He could just as easily be this William...

WILLIAM LAWRANCE
Birth:
Christening: 06 NOV 1805 Chilvers Coton, Warwick, England
Parents:
Father: RICHARD LAWRANCE
Mother: MARY

Hi Mike I have looked at IGI record for Richard Lawrence and Mary (Alcott) of Chilvers Cotton, Warwicks. They had 3 children -
Ann christened 29 may 1803,
William ch 6 Nov 1805 (who could be mine)
and another William ch 18 jan 1807.

Often when there are two chidren with the same name the earlier one is deceased.

What do you think?
