Cannot find a William's Square in Aberdeen - Do you know if there has been a name change to the street? If you can supply information on the address it will make it easier for searching, cos there are loads of James Milne's.

Regards

Catherine

Hi Glitter Baby
I have a 'Register of Corrected Entries' completed by Registrar on 25/11/1902 stating James Milne, labourer of that address. Sorry don't have age. I am aware there are hundreds of James Milnes, that is why I am trying to track him down on here. Have looked at tens of records to try and trace the correct one!! Thanks everyone for your help so far, any more would be gratefully received.
Is the info you have Glitter Baby on 1901 census?

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 2 Dec 2010 16:27

1901 census

10 1/2 Williams Sq also lists Cumming, Duncan, Lyon and Main families as well as Crail and Burnett families.

Not found a James Milne in Williams Sq in 1901.

Okay thank you. Previous search by friend on Ancestry couldn't find this address. Is that where you found it? Can't search by address on SP!!

From a look up of GB's post, I know we want ED=38, so I looked up on Ancestry with civil parish=Clements RD#=168/1 Keyword=38 and various page #s.

Judging by the census entries preceding Williams Sq, the place was just NW of St Clements. Assuming Baltie St is Baltic St (it is Ancestry's transcription after all), I looked up Baltic St at:

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/

No hits - the street has vanished in the last dozen years - it used to be midway between Cotton St and Garvock Wynd. So I look up Garvock Wynd - no hits (it is marked but not indexed.) Anyway - search for either Baltic Place or 395200,806300

I had a look for pics - I think the st to right just past building is Garvock Wynd on:

Looking in background, the area looks now to be all zoned industrial.

Thanks for reply mgnv and all info. I live in Aberdeen, so know the street is no longer there. I had found it on an old map. Sure I have Garvock Wynd mentioned in another tree members details so I'm going to look and see if it's the same branch. Still searching for this person tho, here's hoping this year I'll have some luck.
