Ivan

Yes that user actually got most of her information from me however I discovered that Charles Davis could not have been George's father and so modified my tree.

I have sent them a message to tell them about the new information but they haven't changed their tree.

Still my brick wall then!

Thanks

Steve

Hi

I have found the George and Rachel in your second post previously but their son George appears in 1871 and 1881 census' elsewhere and he was born in 1840 which is too early for George junior but I will follow up that line again to see if I can find anything from it.

I think all the info in your first post has come from my tree as as far as I can see from searching genesreunited and ancestry.co.uk I am the only one searching that family line. Is that right?

Regards

Steve

Hi

I am looking for the parents/ancestors of my great great grandfather George Davis.

The 1871 census has him living in Leamington, Warwickshire with his in-laws John and Elizabeth Cartlidge. That census list him as being born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and has him listed as being 22 years old i.e. born in 1848/1849.

The 1881 census has him listed as being born in Leamington and has him listed as 36 i.e. born in 1844/1845.

The 1891 census has listed as being born in Leamington and has him listed as 43 i.e. born in 1847/1848.

The 1901 census has listed as being born in Leamington and has him listed as 56 i.e. born in 1844/1845.

The 1911 census has him listed as being born in Cheltenham again and has him listed as 68 i.e. born in 1842/1843

He married Martha Cartlidge in 1871. His marriage certificate from 1871 has his father listed as George Davis too. Both he and his father are listed as ‘cane worker’ on the marriage certificate. The winesses at the marriage were John Cartlidge, his father-in-law, and Sarah Bosworth.

I think Sarah Bosworth is Martha Cartlidge's sister as there is a Mary J Bosworth listed on the 1871 census as John Cartlidge's grand-daughter but I can't find any record of a marriage between Sarah Cartlidge and a Bosworth. Mary J Bosworth was born in 1863 or 1864. A Sarah Ann Cartlidge appears on the 1851 census with Martha Cartidge and her parents, John and Elizabeth.

I cannot find either George or his father prior to 1871 and wondered if anybody could help.

Regards

Steve Davis
