Hi I am trying to find out about the medical records and army service records of John Rhodes Dickson born April 27 1867, in Arouca, Trinidad, died April 8 1941.
I know he was educated at Edinburgh University and that he joined the army as a doctor in WW1, but can't find any records of his service.
He married Daphne Helen Sim and returned to Trinidad after war service.
Was he decorated and where did he serve?
Thank you in anticipation.
John Dickson

This is his obituary in the British Medical Journal, but doesn't tell of his war service.

There is someone on this site that has access to WW1 records, but can't find his thread. Try changing your subject line to include WW1 record.

My thanks to all who have replied.

TootyFruity, thanks for the travel records, JRD is white. JRD who is African West Indian is no relation, becaus my JRD was the UK when WW! broke out. As for the other JRD, I am not sure, because when JRD returned to Trinidad he never left again before his death, but never say never and I will search further.

mac, thanks for the NA site recommendation, and I will request the search you suggest for WW! records

Perhaps he went to the US for a work related visit. With his position you'd think this was possible.

Hi Ozibird,
Thanks for your help.
I have a cousin in America who is doing family history as well, she knows about visits to England but has never mentioned America.
I will now press her on this point.
My thanks to everyone who has replied,
May I wish everyone a Very Happy Christmas and a joyful 2011.
With Regards,

My thanks to TootyFruity, I went to the local library to use Ancestry to discover more about the trips suggested, not only were yours there, I discovered 4 more, but I do not know how to find return journeys. The ships passenger records are very interesting. All trips are aound June time probably to coincide with BMA conferences, he also travelled with his wife Daphne Helen
Again with thanks.
John

Your welcome

I'm not too sure how to search for return trips unless he shows up on the incoming uk passenger lists

I'm not too sure John. Maybe she died whilst visiting family and the probate gave home address and uk address.

You can order her Will from

Which may give you more clues
