EDIT This can't be his birth as he was born in June

If they married his fathers name will be on the cert.
If you know where he was born his birth cert should name both parents.

this is my wifes grandad and we dont know his parents name as there was some confusion in the past

You need to get his marriage certificate for his Fathers name.

Is there a possibility that the date of birth on the death certificate is incorrect - out by a year, for example? And was he definitely born in Sheffield, or could he have moved there as a boy?
