Looking for any info on members of the Bedfordshire Harrison family (William and Benjamin lived and owned the Duck Mill in Bedford c.1800 - 1850) and their ancestors. We can't find anything before 1800! Any clues appreciated!

Many thanks for all your replies. I am now able to post the following information which my dad managed to reseach. I am looking for information about a) William's ancestors and b) Frank's descendants - we have no info about either. Many thanks!

William Harrison was born in Luton Beds in 1802 and would grow up to become an important member of society in Bedford, the county town. He became a farmer and Miller in the early 1840s, becoming the owner of the Duck mill which was situated fronting the river Ouse opposite the Swan hotel and next to the bridge where there had been a mill in existence for hundreds of years. He lived in a house backing onto the mill in Potter Street (now (Cardington Road) and besides running the mill employing 4 or 5 men, he became a member of Bedford town council in 1847. He would later became an alderman before retiring in 1862. He lived until 1877 when he died in Bedford having been recorded in the 1871 census as living with a 34 old wife Sophia as against the 1861 census which showed him living with his wife Sarah who was his contemporary and each census in that he had a general servant in residence to so he was evidently prosperous to some degree.

His son Benjamin Harrison was born around 1831 and helped his father run the mill until he and it took it over when his father William retired. William vacated the house and moved elsewhere in Bedford so that Benjamin could be on the spot with his family Benjamin. My great grandfather was reputed to be a robust personality was also a member of Bedford town council and of the Harper Trust, being a liberal politician was a founder member of the Bedford musical society. There was a report in the Beds times where he had taken a bargee to court for stealing some hay from his meadow and he was reported to be a bold and outspoken advocate of local rights and privileges. He also married twice, his first wife Eliza having produced a son Frank in 1864 but she must have died as in 1876 he married Agnes Elizabeth Allen who was 20 years his junior however they had three children and Dora Albert Benjamin ( my grandfather) and Allen. Ttragically however Benjamin had a seizure at the age of 52 from which he never recovered and left his young wife widowed in 1883 with three young children aged under five including a baby only a few weeks old. Two months after his death the Duck mill and Newnham mill which he also owned and his meadows by the river was sold by his executors for £6750 to Bedford town council and the mill demolished to make way for a new weir in 1891.

Many thanks all, some good tips and info there - very much appreciated.

Flick - many thanks! Frank Standen Harrison I believe.

Keenest of all to go back a generation or two from William, yes.

Otherwise sorry for vagueness - I am not a seasoned genealogist and am only going on what I have! Will ask my dad for more info :-)

Try looking for William's baptism as advised.

And, I know it's fascinating to you, but posting all the minutiae of their lives isn't necessary. To be brutally honest, I find it very off-putting, but that's possibly only me!

To help you, we need you to give the facts as you know them, and the details of what you wish us to try to find
