Hello Lynne, are you trying to trace his ancestors or descendants, or both?

Lynn

Lynn Report 28 Jan 2011 20:07

James was my grandfather so John and Elizabeth would of been my great grandparents

MarieCeleste Report 28 Jan 2011 20:09

If you order a copy of his marriage certificate from GRO it should confirm his age, occupation, address and father's details:

Marriages Jun 1866
BLENKINSOPP Elizabeth Durham 10a 501
Moore John Durham 10a 501

This information will help track him and his family in any census. Have you already found him in any census?

Thank you so much I am in the process of doing this now

Lynn - might I ask where you got James parent's details from?

I've just had a look on Ancestry and there are a couple of trees that have John & Elizabeth but not James as their son.

They may not be right, but I'd hate you to be following the wrong line!

I have got Jame's birth certificate and it says his mother was Elizabeth Blenkinsopp and father John Moore. So I looked on Free BMD for their marriage. And I know my grandfather was born in Stokton his father was from Scotland. This family is proving hard to find so any leads I can get I try to follow

Lynn, what was John's occupation on James' birth cert and where were they living at that time?

Also, who did James marry, and where and when?

This will all help us make sure we're tracking the right line.

Thanks for the information.
On James's birth certificate it states that John was a journeyman slater and then lived at 6 Gray St Stockton James was born 25th May 1888.

On James's marriage cetificate it says that he was married to Ester Jane Blakelock 14th Dec 1907 they lived at 63 Dock St and it states that John was a coal miner.

I believe that there was a child and it died at birth or shortly after, but the marriage didn't work.

We always thought he was married to our grandmother Maud Carney but we have found no record at all to verify this.

There was an Ester who lived with my grans sister but we don't know who she was

As you can see it is a complicated family.

MarieCeleste Report 29 Jan 2011 19:44

Here's Ester back with her parents in 1911:

BLAKELOCK, William Head Married M 60 1851 Miner Engine Plane Whitehaven Cumberland
BLAKELOCK, Elizabeth Wife Married 37 years F 55 1856 Cassop Co Durham
MOOR, Esther Daughter Married 3 years F 23 1888 Monkwearmouth Durham

Registration District: Sunderland Sub District: Sunderland North Enumeration District: 2 Parish: Sunderland

Address: 11 Mill Row Southwick Road Sunderland
County: Durham
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In those days divorce was not usually an option to working class people so James may not have been free to legally marry Maud.
