GR have now posted a thread about these changes on Records.

I'd like to think that the scathing e-mail I sent yesterday had something to do with it

Yes, there's one poor fellow now on the Tips board who can't access the previous page on a census. Evidently using GR!

I would imagine the price increase is to deter newbies from just becoming a standard member and just go straight for the platinum.

Then they can come on the boards and ask for help because they cannot make head nor tail of GR records

I asked about the annual membership on the GR facebook page early this morning as it seems to be the only place you get a quick reply from them and it appears they then put the clarification message on here.

They always seem to put the announcements on General and Chat, as you say GB, they don't seem to think about the helpers.

I agree, Glitter, I am on this site on a daily basis helping others on all of the boards that you mention. However I never go to either General or Chat.

GlitterBaby Report 9 Feb 2011 14:08

Sometimes think that the helpers on this site are treated like second class members

The work is done on Records, Trying to Find, Tips, Surname Information and History Boards but GR did not think them worth while posting their thread on

Quite a difference in prices now! 14.95 for 6 months while those of us on continuous membership pay 9.95 for a year.

GR have added a new post to Chat re the price changes '2 hours ago' so 0930ish Wed 9 Feb

*** Just for clarification, the prices above refer to 6 month memberships.

All those currently on annual memberships will be able to remain on their annual membership at the price they are currently paying as long as you continue to renew before or within 4 weeks of your membership lapsing. ***

How typical that GR didn't post the info where it would be seen by the people who make the site what it is.............

And how do they justify a 50%+ increase in Standard membership?

Gai

Gai Report 9 Feb 2011 05:22

So the key is don't let your Standard membership expire and automatically renew. This is the way I'll have to go in future as currently GR is $19.95 for 6 months which is reasonable.

But I think some warning this was going to happen would have been a good on GR's part.

GR posted this on both General and Chat .... but not apparently on Records, Tips, or TTF

There have been some significant changes to the pricing on Genes Reunited today.

Platinum has now been reduced to £49.95, anyone who is currently a Platinum member and chooses to automatically renew will renew at the new price.

Current Standard members may continue to renew at the price they are currently paying. For new members and those who have let their membership expire, a Standard subscription costs £14.95.

If you are a Gold member you will continue to renew at the price you are currently paying with the option to upgrade to Platinum with a 10% discount in the last 4 weeks of your Gold subscription. Gold will no longer be available for purchase if you are not a current Gold member.
