You can register your details on the Adoption Contact Register, Southport (all info on website), as can birth relatives of adopted people. If there is ever a match, you will both be contacted by the administrators of the Register.

Also, try NORCAP, they specialise in trying to reunite adopted people with their birth families.

And as Jan suggests, you can contact the Post Adoption Team at the Social Services Dept in the area the adoption took place and the area you live now.

OK, just wait till it has arrived and se what it contains. However, I would really advise contacting social services as you can then gain access to your adoption file, and they will be able to give you better advice.

April, if you want to send me her name happy to look for anything I can find on Ancestry - that is, birth or marriage.

Also, do you have any addresses on your birth cert? If so it might be worth following this up by looking on the electoral register. This has to be done in person, usually at the nearest main library. Worth a shot to see who was living there (people over 21 will be shown).

Have you registered your name on the national adoption register, just in case she is looking for you?

As an adopted person you have a right to your details, and to access your bityh cert. I would contact social services (any area) for advice.
However, as you have the date, do you already have your mother's details, obviously you wouldn't want to put her name on here.
