Contact the local newspaper for the area............google for its name etc.

BUT...........you can't assume that a death notice was published.............not everyone goes down that route

Who registered his death?

Have you looked ion search trees to find whether a GR member other than you is researching the man?

I've googled the area for the trafford area of manchester and nothing comes up. i do agree however that not everyone does go down the route of publishing the deaths. i've spoken with my auntie and she went to the funeral in 1981 and was told that it was published and the person who registered his death was his son also called john

You could try contacting the Manchester Evening News - this would have been the most popular newspaper for such notices in that area I believe.

There is nothing on their site on line going that far back but they may have someone who will look in their archives for you?

Just send the newspaper an e-mail - they may be able to help you.

Also Manchester Library will have copies of local papers too - e-mail them and they may look it up for you.

Best of luck,
