Rachael married PrivateJames Knox of the 97th Regiment on 1 Apr 1850 at Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Rachael accompanied her husband to postings in Canada, England, and India, and she had seven children by him.
Rachael died on 22 Apr 1895 in Boston MA
Any help in finding Rachael's parents and her roots in England would be much appreciated.

This is going to be impossible I think without more information as there are numerous possible birth/christenings! I know nothing about records from Canada but ideally you need her marriage details so we can find out her father's name.

the site to look

https://www.novascotiagenealogy.com/

A search for Knox James (the more uncommon name to start with) finds two marriages.

Unfortunately, yours isn't there (only marriage bonds up to 1864, but it might have named her father).

Can you say where you got the marriage record from? -- oh, from the military record?

I don't suppose they were resident in England for any census that would give you details about her?
