Divorce unlikely. At that time divorce was really only the prerogative of the the very well off.

In the 1871 census Jane is shown as a widow.

Possible death for Samuel. Death registered in St Luke which is where his family is living in 1861:

Deaths Dec 1862 (>99%)
EVANS Samuel St Luke 1b 444

Hi Dawn,

Do you have parents names of Samuel?

Does it say it Jane was a widower on any of the censuses as you haven't said

Can anyone help me find a divorce or death for Samuel Evans b1817 S t Sepluchre Middlesex m Jane Burns 1837 St Pauls Canonbury
I have them in 1841 census, 1851 census living in Bermondsey Southwark.with 4 children Charles, Christiana,Harriet and Joseph Farmer.(my Ggrandfather),
in 1861 census Jane and 4 children are living at 22 Rose St Finsbury.
Did Samuel divorce or die?.I have a shipping list entry for Aus in 1857 and wonder if he emigrated to start another life.
His son Joseph Farmer came to Aus in 1883-4 and married in Melbourne.
Jane is in 1871 census living with son Charles but in 1881 census Charles is living with sister Harriet so Jane must have died between 1871-81.
