Michelle - technically, you're correct. Thru 1844, Belford did include part of Durham. However, it's not the modern County Durham we're talking about here, but the old County Durham that had a detached chunk on the Scottish border, around Berwick. This anamolous chunk was transferred to Northumberland in 1844.

Hi all,

Oh thanks, why did I not get an email telling me I had got replies !!!!!!.

So so sorry for not replying sooner, had no idea about all the replies. The Cuthbertson family is the same family (Hall). Just got back from Glasgow after collecting poor relief applications and I have now found out the parents of my John Hall (Robert Hall and Margaret Cuthbertson). I was aware of Johns father being Robert Hall from the marriage cert but needed to have written proof that I had the correct John Hall and now I have.
By all accounts my 3rd Great grandfather was a right one, still not worked out why he used his mothers name for the census but he did. He left the family on and off for a period of over 10 years and looks like he was full of fibs from reading this application.

All sorted now and thanks so much for all your replies, just wish I had read them sooner Angeline xxx

That's Ok Ginny :-))

I was trying to find who was above them on that census by putting those details from the 1901 census you posted ie:

Registration Number: 644/6
Registration district: St Rollox
Civil parish: Glasgow Maryhill
Address: 465 New Keppeckhill Road
ED: 60
Household schedule number: 38
Line: 20
Roll: CSSCT1901_289

But it doesn't seem to work...although it's probably me that's not doing it right :-((

Thats the trouble with Scotish censuses, you cant look at the actual record!

The Scotish 1911 census is out soon, next month I think? Might be worth checking that but the family that I posted were not around on the 1891 so Im 99% convinced it's a possible that they are yours

Edit; Sorry Cathy...I wasnt ignoring you I was responding thinking you were the poster!

Where is Angeline?

Looks like you could well be right Ginny but how on earth does Hall gets mistranscribed as Cuthbertson?

There was an Alice Hall born 1898 St Rollox / Glasgow on scotlandspeople

Hi all, can ANYONE please help me as I am going insane........I have looked and looked and looked and I now I fear I am missing it.

Right here goes,
Trying to find my family in 1901, John Hall and Margaret Ann Hall (Maiden name Hall) married at St Hebburns Co Durham in April 1891 and I thought they soon moved to Glasgow, as they had daughter Margaret born 12/1892. It now seems (Letter from Family in Glasgow) that there was an older sister Mary born 1891 / 2???

My family are;
John Hall ( 1860 birth not sure but hope it's Belford, Northumberland)
Margaret Ann Hall (1865, Portadown, Armgh, Ireland)
Mary Hall b 1891 / 2 birth not known
Margaret Hall b 12/1892 Glasgow
John Hall b 3/1895-3/1897 Glasgow
Robert Hall b 3/1895 Glasgow
Thomas Hall b 2/1897 Glasgow
Alice Hall b 11/1898 Glasgow
Annie and John Edward Hall born after 1901

Finding them in 1901 is so IMPORTANT as John Hall snr left the family soon after the birth of last child John Edward in 1909. If I find the family in 1901 it should (fingers crossed) confirm where John Hall snr is from, hense the importance. The Scottish 1911 census (when it comes out next month) should not have John Hall snr with the family. I have John Hall snr in 1911 back in England, very confussing I know but I hope it makes sense.

I can not find this family anywhere, searched England, Scotland and Ireland but nothing, it may just be me. I am going crazy now as there are too many of them not to find (if you know what I mean). If anyone can help, I would be very grateful, thank you xxx
