Timothy the way to get the parents names is to buy the birth certificate. I think that it is the indexes that you have been looking at which are just that - indexes. To view the entries you have to buy the certificates.
To build an accurate family tree you do need to invest in certificates. It may be possible to build a tree of sorts without them if you are lucky but that sort of tree would only give the year that an event took place rather than an exact date.

Hi all, Have reached a brick wall with my Hill Ancestors (Charles Hill born ca. 1855 married Jane Bryant)
the only possible lead i have is that they were related to the Hills who were cabinet makers in Newcastle Under Lyme in the 1940's
if anyone connected to the Cabinet Makers could get in touch, we might be able to figure it out
