I am searching for any information on Richard Jones. He was given as the father of William Jones when William married Sarah Alexander on 3/6/1865 in Urchfont, Wiltshire. Richard's occupation was shown as Labourer. |

MarieCeleste: William's birth was registered under the name of Roger Bridle (1Q 1842 Devizes Vol.8 Page 323) and his mother was Mary Ann Bridle. In 1854 Mary Ann married Roger Brown and in the 1861 Census Roger was now William Brown and living with his mother, step-father and sister. He took his grandmother's surname when he married under William Jones. |

Kathleen, just my opinion, but I doubt if Richard Jones actually existed as his father. It's extremely common to invent a father to "save face". |
