Thank you one and all, so far.

Louis Hervey Kibble's parents were Hervey Kibble [born 1843 in Scotland] and Mary Louisa Bayley of Manchester.

Louis Hervey Kibble married Eva Cooper in 1892 in Chorlton.

Hervey Kibble had a brother James William Kibble who died in 1902, and all checked out.

Can someone look again in the 1901 and also 1911 for me, please?

Feels like a brick wall and I don't like them!!

I've changed the thread title, to avoid confusion. Apologies if I contravened GR rules!!

Am contacting kind Chris Ho for the dissolution article. Amazing!

But where, oh where, were Louis and Jessie in 1901?????

Just a thought Nicola - you said he was a comedian, wonder if he had a stage name?

Nicola'S

Nicola'S Report 22 Mar 2011 20:48

Hello everyone.

Well, this is a colourful character indeed!

Chris Ho has pm'd me an article from The Times under 'Decrees Absolute'. LHK , actor, petitioned his wife for divorce due to her adultery with a chap with a very flambuoyant name ALVARO DE C FERREIRA, by whom she had twins! The decree nisi was granted until the case was intervened due to LKH's adultery in turn. At that point, the decree was rescinded and costs were ordered to be paid by LKH. Oh dear!

The article says that he went by the name of Louis Keane when he committed the adultery.

So, we're looking for a LOUIS HERVEY KIBBLE, Comedian and/or a LOUIS KEANE, Actor.

1901/1911 Censuses, please? And maybe the twins? Goodness knows what name they were registered under. Sometime around 1905/1906, according to the decree details.

This is a juicy one.

Thank you to MarieCeleste. A thousand thanks.

You are certainly some detective. I am VERY impressed.

The twins were born in 1906, one of each. The boy died a year later.

Eventually, when Jessie May Kibble was the grand age of 75, she and Ferreira married in 1946.

But I still cannot find poor LOUIS HERVEY KIBBLE/LOUIS KEANE after the 1911 census. He seems to have fallen on hard times after all this scandal.

Can anyone see his second marriage and/or his death????

Nicola'S Report 22 Mar 2011 21:59

Mary -

Well spotted. Yes, it is definitely the grandson living with his widowed Grandmother.

Goodness only knows what was going on here because little Alvaro is obviously named after his wayward mama's amour but he is born only two years after her marriage to Louis Hervey Kibble. A bit of a kick in the teeth to her husband to name her love child after its papa when she is still married to her husband!!

Hey ho.

Thanks Mary - I'm ashamed that I got the 'wrong' marriage to begin with. It was only Chris Ho who dragged me back from disaster when she noticed the divorce scandal article in The Times which mentioned his wife as Jessie.

And thank you too for spotting the possible marriage for him. I shall investigate.

This has been a revelation - there's scandal, and then there's S.C.A.N.D.A.L.!!!
