Charlotte`s death in Coombs I`m pretty sure is right as Coombs is on Vancouver Island which is where Dad`s family come from & some of the family lived in Coombs. I`m not too sure about Oxford as I was only 7 when I emigrated to England from Nanaimo & my geography of the island is pretty sketchy. It sounds as if it`s the right William though & well worth following up. Many thanks. |

Well worth investigating, thanks. The Canadian records are correct - my grandmother was Alice Baker - she married Benjamin McKenzie & my father was born in Wellington BC.I`ll follow up on the Dorking records you have & see where it gets me. |

Help please - I`ve hit a brick wall! I`m trying to find detail of my paternal great-grandfather, William Baker born England 1852. The only records I have are a marriage record ref: Dorking 2a-215 - Dec 20th1882 where he married Charlotte Dibble. He emigrated to British Columbia, Canada shortly after where my grandmother Alice Baker & her siblings were born.On the marriage certificate it lists his father as John Baker(deceased) & his place of residence at time of marriage Dorking. I have tried looking up census records, but I`ve found nothing, nor can I find any record of his mother.I would appreciate any help you can give me as I cannot get any further on my own.Thankyou in anticipation. Maggi Stokes nee Margaret McKenzie |
