Dont know if anyone can help me?
In the 1970s me and my Mum moved into a newly built house in Waltham Abbey it was bulit on the site of an old Quaker meeting house.
While doing the garden one day we found a "coin" in the soil. It must of been in the ground awhile but after cleaning it up we could read some of the words on it.
It seems to be a Kings Medal and name on it is " G. BELL "
the date looks like 1910 -19 ?? and cant read the rest.
Is G. Bell on the Census at all ? I wonder if the Bell family were from Waltham Abbey ?

So, that narrows it down a bit then Ann,

'G. Bell' will be a child of school age in 1910.

Hi Dea!!! seems these medals were awarded for school attendance - well I was a regular attender and I never got one!!!!

Thanks for your help. I've been having a read too about the school attendance medal. mums house was built on what was quaker lane school . When I get get home will look at the edge of the coin sending this from my mobile

The edge of the coin is sadly unreadable could of been in the ground 60 years !

have you tried making an impression of it by running the edge around in say Blutack or plasticine? might make it readable
