Hello everyone, your thread is the key to my whole tree. Joseph and Mary Alice were adopted and both did time in an orphanage. Josephs Grandson is Teddy and still alive today- He is my gramps! gramps can remember his father talking about Joseph receiveing overcoats and other luxuries from wealthy Acaster relatives whilst in the orphanage.

Joseph b 1876 ish m Catherine Kitson (Cate) and had William, Joseph, George, Daisy, Lilly and Teddy. Have dates for all if you want them. Aunti Lily is still alive too. she has two sons david & john. Teddy Married Blanche, devastatingly recently laid to rest and had Stephen who had me!

The Irish civil registration records for marriages at that site don't match up spouses.

Searching for Mary Hartin married in Cavan, Ireland, in 1969, exact or close match:

There are a couple of Mary Hartin/Harten marriages that would be possible in Granard Registration District -- 2 Harten in 1970, 2 Hartin in 1871 and 1866.

What I would do is find them, note the registration details (volume no. etc.), and then search for a James Reilly marriage that matches on those details.

I tried a quick check but didn't see any matches; you might want to try more thoroughly.

There are multiple James Reilly + Mary Harten/Hartin marriages in Co Cavan in the 1860s??

Well, unfortunate for you!

I suppose if you knew anything else about them ... like their children, why you are searching for them ... you'd do what we tell everybody else to do, and tell us ...

But Ginny, c'mon ... you need to tell us *what* you have done so we don't do it all over again ... like I just presumably did ... You ain't a newbie.

And we still have no clue why you're looking for them; you only *think* they had a son, so you're not descended from them, it seems. (Or are you descended from Patrick, or at least is it his ancestors you're looking for?)

You know that letting know other people what you know is only reasonable.

Hellllp.....JC is bullying me ;)

Why do you think Im looking for them numpty, caus they have outstanding debt? Or could it be that they are my family hmmm ;)

I want to find the marriage between them so that I can establish their parents

Thanks Maura, I havent seen that. I am right in thinking there wont be a birth certificate for that year?

I was just going to edit to say yay Maura, looks like him. ;)

C'mon, Ginny, don't you read other threads?

Someone saying "I'm looking for John Smith born 1850" is ALWAYS asked:

- parents?
- children?
- what is your relationship? descended from a child, sibling, parent? Who???

because we don't have magic wands, and if the person doing the asking can't find the answers *with* all that info, how can anybody else find it *without*?
JaneyCanuck

Yesterday
pilot.familysearch has births in the 1860s that do seem to be registrations, but for Patrick Reilly with father James and mother Mary the earliest is in 1864.

Come to think of it, that may be about the earliest I've seen when doing Irish searches in the IGI. Might that be when registration started, or just when the Mormons started extracting from?

Dont know parents, dont know for sure children, Patrick is mooted as being a son but no proof

Possible sibling Susan Hartin poss 1840 Ireland? I have info from RootsIre that she married John Flanagan...no idea when or where, 1860s I would guess?

Gin,

This old post on Ancestry may give you an indication about the probable background of Mary Riley's "adopted" son Joseph Acaster:

http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.akester/10/mb.ashx

If it is in anyway accurate this might be the death of his father:

Deaths Dec 1879 (99%)
Acaster Joseph 50 Sheffield 9c 233

The message refers to a probable sister of Joseph Jnr, a Mary Alice c1869. It reveals that in 1881 she was at the Roman Catholic Orphanage Kirk Edge, Sheffield (Shown with the surname Acastis).

Jonesey Report 1 Apr 2011 14:42

Gin,

Here is the marriage of the Joseph Acaster that Jax found in the 1911 census:

Marriages Sep 1902 (>99%)
Acaster Joseph Sheffield 9c 827
Kitson Catherine Sheffield 9c 827

P.S. He is not the one born in 1876 in Swinton nr Rotherham who appears in the census with his parents in 1881/91/1901. That one married in Rotherham in 1907.

P.P.S. The Joseph Acaster born c1874 only appears in one family tree on Ancestry. He has obviously been picked up via the 1881 census as nothing else is shown about him. Just out of interest the tree owner is called Riley (In Sheffield) and the tree contains mostly people called Flanagan.

Gee

Gee Report 1 Apr 2011 14:31

Thanks Jax

More mystery then. The one Jonesey posted says born Sheffield, but there is nothing on BMD showing this birth

Can you see him in 1891/1901 by any chance please
