hi

I have been struggling to get the birth certificate of Thomas Green, my husband’s great grandfather. Listed below is some of information I have-rather a long list sorry

I have his marriage certificate to Jane Stokes giving his age as 36, and occupation as general labourer,on 2nd July 1892 their wedding day (registry office Warrington, Lancashire)
His father is recorded as John Green (deceased) , a licensed victualler.

My husband’s grandfather, George Green was born on 12 june 1895 to Thomas Green , foundry labourer, and Jane Stokes Green (birth certificate and from husband’s father)

From censuses I believe Thomas’s parents were John Green (as per marriage certificate too) and Sarah possibly Portman as maiden name.

1861 census RG09 piece 2626 Folio 114 page 24
GREEN, John Head 42 1819 Licensed Victualler Minworth Warwickshire
GREEN, Sarah 43 1818 Powick Warwickshire
GREEN, Charles Son 63 1798 Agricultural Labourer ChesterCheshire
GREEN, Thomas Son 7 1854 Scholar Chester
GREEN, George Son 5 1856 ScholarChester
(Charles should read 1848 if look at actual census)

1871 census RG10 piece 3722 folio 63 page 45
BARNES, George Head M 20 1851 Cheshire
BARNES, Mary Ann Wife F 20 1851 Cheshire
BARNES, Arthur Son M 0 1871 Cheshire
GREEN, Sarah Head F 52 1819 Worcestershire
GREEN, Thomas Son M 18 1853 Cheshire
I think Mary Ann Barnes is his sister

Possibly 1881 census RG11 Piece 3786 folio 67 page 8

GREEN, Thomas Son M 11 1900 School Earlestown Lanc
STOKES, Thomas Boarder Widower M 80 1831 Blacksmith Striker Bolton Lanc

I have applied for several birth certificates and they have either been wrong or returned as not correct ie father’s name not right etc-both Warrington and Chester offices.

From Cheshire Parish Records via Familysearch there is a John Thomas Green christened 6 Aug 1854 at St John’s Chester to John Green and Sarah. Other children being Charles 30 July1848, George 12 Oct 1856.

Any suggestions or information gratefully received

thanks Karen

Hi Karen

In 1851 and 1861 they were living in the Great Boughton area, so I would have thought his birth would have been registered there. Unfortunately these are the only 2 births that come up anywhere near those years. The other nearest ones in years are 1840 and 1859.

Births Mar 1852
Green Thomas Harkey Great Boughton 8a 354

Births Jun 1852
Green Thomas Green Starkey Gt Boughton 8a 354
