With William M Jones in 1891 census and 1881 census, there is a Clara J Harvey, single , niece, born 1865.
Is there any possibility that she is Clara Jones Harvey and her mother has remarried at some point so Annie is hiding as Annie Harvey?
I appreciate that Clara is his sister not his niece, so just a suggestion.

I did trace Clara Harvey. I seems that she married a Frank Northam in 1893. I don't think she was a Jones of any description. I have a fairly clear idea of the family until the 1881 census when William and Ann seem to disappear. Clara Jones got married in 1888 and her father is given as deceased on the marriage cert. I have tried to find the Sarah and Jessie mentioned in the 1871 census but they also seem to disappear and then suddenly in 1901 Annie Capel appears.

I think this is going to have to be put down as one of life's imponderables.

Thanks ot everyone for the tiem and effort.
