I've managed to piece together information regarding the Armitage Brothers plumbing business which used to be based in Brighouse.

William Henry Armitage (b 1861) and James Frederick Armitage (b 1863), both sons of John Armitage (b 1836), established the company in the late 1800s. They acquired the business of J H Goodyear, a plumber and glazier. This allowed the Armitages to offer services including plumbing, glazing, sanitary engineering, and gas, steam and water fitting.

JF Armitage was born in Elland, but c1885 he moved to Australia to study sanitation engineering. There he married and had 5 children. The family returned to the UK in October 1894, settling in Brighouse.

The last entry is probably the same James F as I have the records for. I'm not after any specific information, merely sharing something which took a lot of different sources and piecing together.

Its my first major information from outside the census records and figured someone else might be interested / connected to it.

well the likelihood of someone connected seeing your posting is rather remote - best if you look for them using the Search Trees tab top of this page

Think this is just a misunderstanding of what the Surname Information board is about.
I suppose it could be read two ways, which had never occurred to me.

Christopher has given surname information as opposed to asking about it, a reasonable mistake with good intentions.-j
