Dear Terence,

I'm sorry but I've not got access to the censuses or other records but it appears you are not getting many replies, so I hope you don't mind me making a few suggestions.

Firstly ask someone to look up Adelaide Baker in the 1901 and 1911 censuses and ask for all the details of the whole family including places of birth and occupations.

I've had a look in the indexes for those years and the family are listed as living in Essex. On ancestry for 1901 you can include the spouse on the search and there is only one Adelaide and Thomas Baker living in the London area. Adelaide appears to have been born in Hertfordshire (possibly Chalk Hill, Bushey). Thomas Baker appears to be older than you suggested, born 1863 (possibly in Camden).

As Thomas Baker is such a common name you will need to get hold of the marriage certificate through freebmd giving the details of date and number quoted by Andrew above. You'll then be able to locate him in the censuses by finding the name and occupation of his father.

Good luck

Richard

Alternately, Terence could try some searches on FreeBMD - http://www.freebmd.org.uk

The problem with looking up Adelaide Baker in the 1911 is that there are quite a few. At least if the marriage certificate is obtained then there is some hard facts like father's name and occupation to ensure the right line is followed.

If Harold was born in 1893, that is before the marriage quoted, so was he born as Harold Brooke?
Are his parents alive in 1911?
What connection are you - is it through Harold?
Thanks

Could you give us some more information about Harold?
Thanks

If you want more help you need to keep adding to the thread so that your request stays on the front page.

I think you need to give all the information you can. Do you have his marriage certificate; if so give all the details on it including occupations and names of witnesses. Where did he live exactly (London is not specific enough).

How did you arrive at Thomas and Adelaide Baker as your ancestors? How do you know Harold was born to them in 1893? There are lots of Harold Bakers born in the West Ham District.

Request that someone look the family up in the 1911 census, to see if Harold was born later.

Good luck.

Have looked in both 1901 & 1911 on FMP and can find no Harold (or variants) born 1893 +/- 2 years with a parent Thomas or Adelaide.

Terence, as requested could you give some further info - what is his connection to you?

thanks to you all for taking the trouble to post your ideas.
Harold Baker 1893 was my grandfather.mine is a success story yet to be posted.I met an uncle for the fist time last week, the first contact ever with a member of my fathers family. we now have documents and photos of Harold but the family who have also been researching can find no birth record for Harold. I have tried looking for Harold Brooke to no avail. I have now ordered the marriage certificate of Thomas and Adelaide to see if it sheds any light on the whereabouts when Harold was born. if it is the right people was Harold born before the marriage? I have looked on the census 1901 and 1911 but cannot match anything

thanks

Why do you think Harold was their(Thomas and Adelaide's) son - what have you got that links him to them?
