Hello

I am trying to find William Mitchell born 1865 Glasgow to James Mitchell and Rose Ann Dowds. William married in 1886 to Agnes Sweeney in Greenock. I have William on the 1891 census, but after that nothing.

William is named as father on James Mitchell 1895 and previous children, but other children his wife had after that date, she states that William is not the father of these children and that he has left the town and she has not seen him for several years. His wife Agnes remarries in 1905, stating that she is a spinster and uses her maiden name of Sweeney.

On one of his childrens marriage cert 1906 she states her father deceased, but on James's marriage in 1914 it does not say deceased.

I have spent a fortune on Scotlands people and other places, I just do not know where to look next.
Does any kind person have any ideas!!!!

but according to their tree she had 4 spouses ???

My william on the 1891census lived at 3 Charles street Greenock with Agnes and Maggie age 1. Their oldest child Ellen/Helen appears to be living with Agnes's mum in Greenock

If the above census is the correct one, they do appear in the 1901 census with addition of children Robert b 1891,Mary b 1895,James b 1898 and Annie b 1900
William's birthplace is now BIGGAR Glasgow McLeod

in the 1901 census Helen, Margaret Edward william and James are all living with Agnes's mother in Shannons Close Greenock.

Agnes has two more children with Joseph Branchfield and is living in Dalrymple street with her nearly husband Joseph.
