You are right about the trees on ancestry; I take them with a pinch of salt unless evidence is quoted or attached :-)

Thanks Barry-the problem with the Clacks is that there are so many of them plus so many with the same names plus they are frequently transcribed as Clarke !!

The illigit William is the one I want.

Some of the public trees on Ancestry with Clack are a very suspect !

As it appears that William b 1848 was illegitimate I had a look on Ancestry Public Member Trees and there are several which record a William Clark Clack born to a Hannah Clack and a William Clark born Strandlake (which is in the Bampton census district) in 1833.
I've had a look on 1841 census for a possible Willam Clark but there are too many to choose from
