Gold star for anyone who can find these two.
Edward Crowder b abt 1782 Ludlow, Shropshire
2nd wife, Elizabeth Chapman b 1805 Edgbaston
Maria Crowder b 1810 Birmingham
John Joseph Crowder b 1838 Birmingham
Known addresses around census time are
Edmund St Birmingham at John Joseph´s christening in 1838 & Cherry Street Birmingham when 2nd son Henry Edward was born in 1842.
Edward was a spoonmaker, ink maker, furniture broker on various censuses.
Have the family in 1851 onwards, but stuck for 41.
Thanks Marion

Hi Maddie.
Thanks for that.
John Crowder & family are my 3xg grandparents,so have their info.
You appear to have found Maria, who has obviously left home. Perhaps she didn´t like her stepmother (who, incidently was her mother´s sister). She´s back with them in 1851 though.
Unfortunately, don´t have street numbers for either Cherry St or Edmund St. but they are both only quite short streets.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks Maddie.
This man has been a thorn in my side for years & now someone has contacted me, wanting info about him.
He married at least 3 times & lied mightily about his age, changed his occupation at the drop of a hat & seems to have abandoned most of his children at an early age. He was at least 35 years older than his 3rd wife, having killed off the 1st two, who were sisters.
Luckily he is from a different branch of the Crowder family from mine, so I can disown him.

Thanks Astra.
Don´t think that´s him as his wife gave birth to sons in 1838& 1842. Also he was born abt 1782. Mind you, he told so many lies, who knows?
Will take a closer look. Thanks again

I have had a look through both those streets on 1841 and they don't seem to be at either of those addresses.

I think I have the family living at 'Little Charles Street'

Image looks like Crowder to me and living with them is:

Elizabeth Chapman aged 60, Clothes Dealer (Is this her mother??)

Is there any sign of a middle name for 'your' Edward please?

Dea Report 4 Jun 2011 10:47

I am thinking that this could very well be him - I think they are serving in the East Indies.

He has only served 1 year so would have been around when first son was born and back to have the second one. ??? (He joined 15th June, 1839)

Harts Army List 1840
Name Regiment Folio
CROWDER, Edward 6TH (OR ROYAL 1ST WARWICKSHIRE) REGIMENT OF FOOT

The image gives no further details except he appears to have a middle initial 'F' and he is an 'Ensign' ?

Of course, he may never have used the middle name?

Not aware that he had a middle name, but who knows.
Little Charles St looks good for Elizabeth & George & Joseph. Elizabeth (wife´s) mother was Elizabeth, so looks like granny had the kids. Wonder where Elizabeth jnr was?
Never mind. What has been found by you clever souls is more than I have managed in 15 years, although as I said earlier, because he´s not one of mine, he´s been pushed to the bottom of the pile.
Many thanks to you all.
Marion
Sorry.Need to get my eyes tested. Elizabeth jnr is there. How thick can you get???
