Wendy Report 7 Jul 2011 12:31

Hi, I have been researching my family history for a number of years now but have hit the proverbial whilst looking for my father's aunt. Her name was Mary Alice Rose and she was born in 1892 at Tudhoe Grange in Durham. Mary looked after my father and his two brothers when their mother died in childbirth aged 33. I simply cannot find a death/marriage entry for Mary and the last time I can find her is on her sons Joseph Lawrence birth certificate in 1915 . I have gone down all the usual routes death and marriage certs of family connected to her. As far as I'm aware she never married. I have looked at parish records at Coundon where her parents and sister are buried I've even been in contact with relatives of her sons wife but again no luck. Has anyone any bright ideas ??

Many thanks in anticipation

Wendy (Exasperated :-S)

So Lawrence is his middle name and not surname if the birth is registered in Auckland

Is this Joseph who was possibly born out of wedlock?

What were the names of her parents and sister?

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 29 Jul 2011 14:44

If the 1911 census is correct then this is the marriage of Joseph and Charlotte:-

Marriages Dec 1900
Storey Joseph Durham 10a 683

Spouse Charlotte Rose.

Many many thanks to you all I really appreciate your help. I do have Mary's birth certificate she was born in 1892 at Tudhoe Grange, Durham. Mary;s parents were Joseph Storey and Charlotte Rose Joseph having been previously maried to a Margaret Croan who sadly died. Mary is on the 1901 census as Alice Storey and on the 1911 census as Mary Alice Rose. On her son's birth certificate she is Mary Alice Rose that was in 1915 iand he was Joseph Lawrence Rose who married a Sarah Longley. The problem I'm having is finding out what happened to Mary, I can't find a marriage or a death for her. Thanks again you're all brilliant :-)

Hi everyone,

No Mary was not a witness at her sons wedding.

12th September 1892 was her exact date of birth.

Her brother was called William Ernest Rose born 1889 but on his death certificate he was William Storey. Her sister was Jane Ann Storey (My grandmother) Jane ws born 1900 and died 1934.

I do know she was still alive by 1938, so the 1968 death entry could be a possibility but she was called Mary Alice not just Alice.

Huge thanks to you all

Hi,

I thought the same as you and ordered that death certificate (which I still have) turns out that that one was Mary Ann Storey who died on 11th July 1963 which would have made my Mary 70 and not 71 until the September of that year.....................................

Thanks
