Why don't the dates collate, Tracy? Didn't they marry in 1895, emigrate the same year and have a son in 1897?

The 1900 has Percy a=2 born Aug 1897 in NY (state) with parents immig 1895.
The 1920 has Percy a=22 b NY (state) with parents immig 1898.

I see no lack of collation with Percy's birth.

I don't know exactly how the US census is administered. I know in the UK census thru 1901 the enumerator collected forms filled out by the censees. The forms were then transcribed by the enumerator into his book, so this might be the cause of the difference. Alternatively, 20+ years after the event, they might not remember exactly when they immigrated. I know I don't (but it's 40+ y for me). I have to work it out by other events - in the first case, I know when I graduated - I worked for a year after that, then emmig. In the 2nd case, I know my wife was 7 m pregnant, and I know when my son was born.
