Hi Maddie + Marieceleste,

Thanks for the above info, William Milnes did work at Guide Bridge, I don't think the other record is him as he died in 1905 in Manchester.

I don't know anything about George, so the stations don't mean anything, Do you know when George died?

Hi Maddie + Marieceleste,

[Sorry Marieceleste - I overlooked your posting last night!! My apologies and thanks for posting]

William was in Lincolnshire in the 1871 census when his occupation is that of a platelayer. He is in Lancashire in the 1881 census when his occupation is that of a railway signalman - so I dont know whether this would fit in with the records that you have found? So in short, Preston, Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire all could fit.

George - well he was born in Collingham, Notts the same as his brother, so that definately means something. I thought I had found him in Dursley Gloucestershire in the 1881 census - but this may be another George.

May I ask when George was killed? Does it say?

Hmmm .... I was asking for a friend who is a member of GR [Fitzy] - I will point her in the direction of this thread and maybe she will have the answers to your questions.

Thanks for looking Maddie - I will email her straight away so she can see your reply.

Hi Maddie - me AGAIN!!! :-D

Would you please look up 3 people for me?

William Milnes born 1845 Notts - he ended up in Lancashire working for the railway - possibly the Ashton, Stalybridge and Liverpool Junction Railway, the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway and/or the London and North Western Railway?

And his brother and son - both called George Milnes - one born in 1845/8 Notts - think he ended up in Gloucester possibly working for either Bristol and Gloucester Railway,Cheltenham and Great Western Union Railway or/and South Wales Railway - and the other born in 1871 Cheshire - think he may have worked for the Ashton, Stalybridge and Liverpool Junction Railway, the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway and/or the London and North Western Railway?

Hope this is enough info?? - and hope that this is within your scope?? - and hope that I am not being a complete pain in the .... by asking????

Many, many thanks.

Elaine
