I would like to thank those who posted here on my thread. Mum died last June and she will never know the fate of Herbert. On the UP side I have copy of the ledgers for the Shorditch Workhouse which states both Horace and Herbert were admitted together in 1881,placed there by their father ( commercial traveller!) Reason for admission. DESTITUTE! |

I might be a bit off line...notes tell me that Herbert WAS a Barnardos Boy and that he went to Canada..However mum seems to think that if he was born between 1868 and 1881 he would be too old for the Barnardos shipments? Anybody know what the age limit was in Barnados, OR when they sorta left the care of Barnardos? Waiting for replies from them is like waiting for paint to dry.. |

That couldn't be him surely in 1881. He would have been too old to be a Home Child sent to Canada 1890-1900? |
