where did you get the name Eleanor from?


There is not a marriage showing on freebmd.org.uk for a William Wigfield to an Eleanor from 1890 to 1920.

the only German Wittenberg's I can see in the UK came to London, apart from one who went to Somerset - they appear to be German Jews

Wigfield on the other hand is a name that appears as far back as the 17th century in the UK although I did find one born in Germany who went to USA

Looking for members of my grandmothers family. Originally from Germany all we know is their real name was possibly Wittenburg and their shop got blown up in the war. They then changed their name to Wigfield and settled in Birkenhead on the Wirral.

William Wigfield married an Eleanor (we don't know her last name, but it is believed she left for the US when the children where very young) they had children Eric, Horace, Cyril, Jack and daughter Cora.

Eric Wigfield (born 1906) then married Mary Hannah Kelly (born 1913)

and Veronica Wigfield (my grandmother) married Denis Parker.

thats all the info my nan has given me.
