Remember that ages of those over 15 on the 1841 census are rounded down to nearest 5 or 0. An age showing as 15 would be 15-19.

Yes your right John & Hannah daughter Elizabeth was born 1819 . The Elizabeth with Frederick would have been born 1826 . So they got the birth wrong or it,s a differant Elizabeth The 1841 Census are full of misstakes , Thank you for that , Frederick and Sarah had six Children , So to find Hannah and her new Husband , and John,s death . not easy lesley

But didn't they have a daughter called Elizabeth in 1839/40. Could the enumerator have made a mistake and it should be 15months maybe. if not where is Elizabeth junior?

Lesley

Lesley Report 22 Nov 2011 15:49

Yes when you think of it , That is the only course to take , Then he Died between 1826 when John was born and 1841 , when he is not in the 1841 Census , as I have no birth date , it,s not going to be easy ,. Then we can find when Hannah married again as there is no Death that I can see ,for her ,, But why then should Frederick look after Elizabeth 15 . when her Mother is still around . The only thing is to look in St Philip & Jacob and West st as that is the last known address . Lesley Thanks

So how do you know he was alive when Caroline married in 1843?
Because he was not noted as deceased on her marriage certificate does not indicate that he was still alive at that time. Unless you have any other documentary evidence which states he was still alive in 1843 I would seriously begin thinking that he may have died and Hannah re-married.

Lesley

Lesley Report 22 Nov 2011 11:12

Thanks. John was not on either Marriage Certs as a witness. just the Friends as witnesses . In the 1841 Census Frederick was married to Sarah Crisp and living in Temple with his Sister Elizabeth 15 and Sarah sister 15 , Caroline I could not find as Whiting but think she was living as Caroline Beaven .John their Brother was 15 and I think was in Prison at the time , So no John or Hannah about , Thanks for your Help Lesley

Are you assuming he died after 1843 because it gave an occupation for him on the marriage certificate?
He could have died before 1843, but was just not recorded as deceased.

Whiting John Bristol 11 152)
