at the moment I have made loads of notes and got myself in a bit of a mess I'm not sure if I've got some of the Millingtons mixed up so have left the Jackson's on hold at the moment
If you have any ideas or good tips it would help
I think I will have to go back to where I was right and retrace just one line at a time for now I think I will try and concentrate on the Millingtons
I have found some more info which could be WM b1791 / 1794 but I will probably have to take a trip to the archives whan I can get the time

Not sure what you mean about Parish records

still trying to make sense of the Wayman family on the1901 census it as Beatrice Annie Benford as daughter then on the 1911 it as her as daughter in law would the parish records make more sense or is it a case of making a educated guess or leaving it as a brick wall

If someone decides to change the given name of a child after registration but before baptism, the birth registration is NOT altered.

same thing when a second name is added at baptism, or at confirmation (in the Catholic church) ............... the birth registration is not altered.



The only thing that I can suggest is that you buy that birth certificate for John Wayman on the off chance that it is him


It will cost £9.25 (includes p&p) from GRO (General Registry Office) ..... but it would solve the problem one way or other ......... it is for Elijah or it is not. If it is, then you will determine when he was born.

There is no other way to find out.

NOTE:- if George Jackson was the baby's father, then he would not be a step child ....................... and in any case, people didn't seem to bother with that fine distinction in a lot of cases.

If he called himself Wayman plus his parents called him Wayman in the 1891 it looks like he was born just before they married.

You have all the census's for him and maybe they did not mention the children had a different surname when the enumerator asked in 1881

He is with his parents in 1891...why their ages are so out I have no idea,
Also his married sister and younger siblings are with him.

There is no birth for Elijah Jackson so he either was not registered or the John Wayman born caxton 1874 is him

I have a gt gt grandmother who although was born during her parents marriage she was not registered but baptised...but her siblings were registered. It is odd to have him baptised Jackson but call him Wayman, which why it makes me think John Wayman was his registered name then they may have decided they wanted to call him Elijah after the registration

I'm still confused was Elijah John Wayman born before his mother was married
and she married Jackson after so would he be on the census as stepson so am I looking for Jackson or Wayman

Can see Baptism of Elijah John and Marriage of George Elijah to Ellen Mary Wayman (as posted by Sylvia) but nothing for John Wayman...

I did look for a previous marriage for George ....... thinking bigamy, but couldn't find one.


UNLESS ...... could Elijah have been born before 16 Oct, but not baptised until afterwards, at which point George acknowledged him as his son


That means that that registration for John Wayman that you found could be the one.
