If you are looking at ancestry there is a high possibility that not all the records have been uploaded yet. Ancestry often specify that they have loaded data for a particular range of years, in this case London Electoral Rolls 1835-1965 but what they don't tell you is that there may be 1 record loaded for the first year then there's a 20 year gap and then a few more years have been loaded.

For example, I have Cummings ancestors that lived in Willesden and if I look at ancestry it shows people for 1869, 1870, 1872, 1873, 1878, 1882 then there is a big gap to 1922 then every year thereafter is listed upto 1936 then nothing after then.

If you search this data set on ancestry and specify only a year and no names you will in fact find there are no entries listed prior to 1847 and the last entries are for 1961, even though they stipulate in the data set heading that it covers 1835-1965.

Ancestry commonly deceive users by stating that their data sets cover a particular date range without telling you all the data is not there. You will either need to wait for them to eventually upload the years you are looking for or contact your local Electoral Office to see if they have copies you can access in their office.

Have a look at the following leaflet from London Metro Archives for further info on researching the Electoral Rolls.

Tracey

Tracey Report 4 Feb 2012 23:11
