Trying to think laterally and explore a new avenue.......?

For 3 years I have tried without success to locate the grave of Charles Thomas Ames.

As a cabin boy he drowned whilst swimming alongside the Steamer "sellinge" in Nantes France on 05.06.2939.

We have written reports of the accident / search for his body / burial. But no details of the grave location.

How do i locate a French death certificate? I am hoping this may lead me to a grave eventually...?

Do you have confirmation that he was actually buried and not lost at sea?

Hello,
Yes -we have letters from Captain Ross SS Selinge.
They state "missing whilst on R&R". The next states "body recovered". The third states "ships company " arranged burial in Nantes France.

The date - June - means he falls outside the burials of the War Graves Comission.

Letters make mention of the British Embassy. I have contacted them - offered to search Embassy archieves at charge of £180 - with caveat that record may have been destroyed during the war.
